Two constables of the Punjab police lost their lives when a suicide bombing took place at the interprovincial check-post Dajal, in Bhakkar district, Sargodha division, Punjab. The check-post was located at the boundary of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district.
According to police, at 06: 54pm, the bombing was reported. Two out of four injured were polio workers, one was a passerby, and the other was a police official. In the CCTV footage, a person with a black shawl could be seen going towards the check-post minutes before exploding himself.
Hours later, a lesser-known militant group, Ittehadul Mujahideen Pakistan-affiliated Ansar al Islam Pakistan, claimed the responsibility in a statement stating that its suicide bomber Abu Darda carried out the attack. It is important to mention that this was the fourth attack in Punjab since last year by different militant organisations, other than the routine skirmishes in Dera Ghazi Khan district, which is adjacent to Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Last year, in March, the Counter Terrorism Department of Punjab arrested a suspected suicide bomber in Lahore whose vest did not explode. Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan stated that one of their suicide attacker got arrested and another one managed to escape. In another incident, a police officer was shot dead at Raiwind road Lahore. Taliban’s Hafiz Gul Bahadar group claimed the attack. According to official data, militants carried out 31 attacks in the border areas of Punjab between 2023 and 2025.
Twelve law enforcement officials sustained injuries as a result of these incidents, with one fatality reported. Conversely, security operations led to the deaths of 19 militants, including 4 in 2024 and 15 by July 2025.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack. She also directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured constable, polio workers and a passerby wounded in the incident.
