Quetta: A powerful explosion occurred near Chaman Phatak in Quetta on Sunday, police said.
According to police, the nature of the explosion is being ascertained. Initial reports suggest that a cantonment train near the railway track at Chaman Phatak was targeted.
Police said the train derailed following the blast. A large number of ambulances and security personnel have been dispatched to the scene.
According to preliminary information, authorities suspect the explosion may have been a suicide attack. Heavy firing was also reported in the area after the blast.
Police said more than 20 people were injured in the incident, while rescue sources later said the number of injured had risen to over 30.
